Carried: Chagas’ Disease (Sudden fatal heart failure, due to a single cell…)

Total self-sufficiency was the correct response to an early absence of care, and it worked — the life got built, the bases got covered, nothing was left to anyone else's reliability. What it could not do was supply the thing it was compensating for, and the heart, which is the organ of exchange, runs a long time on output alone before the account is called. This is not a failure of strength but its cost. What the shape asks for is one dependency permitted before the reserves finish.

I built the whole thing myself, out of nothing, and there has never been a day when someone else had it covered.

Bellerophon, who rode higher than anyone and came down to wander alone, eating out his own heart far from the roads of men. The form implies a task: to come back among people while there is still time.
