Pushed away: Bacon

Making money feels like something I'd have to apologise for.

It keeps its own prosperity permanently just out of reach, treating earning and having as faintly disreputable and arranging, without ever quite deciding to, for the good outcome to fail late. The moral colouring came from home, where a family that was either swallowing or degrading made getting ahead into a betrayal of everyone who did not. What it asks for is to separate the money from the morality, and to hold one gain without paying for it in guilt.

The Archetypal Form

It echoes Diogenes, who threw away even his cup, lived in a jar, and built an entire philosophy out of proving that what everybody else worked for was contemptible. The form implies a task: to ask whether the contempt was ever really about the goods.
