Reached for: Change
“The second something starts to get close, I need a new city.”
Any arrangement beginning to hold intimacy is dissolved and replaced — the job, the town, the relationship, the whole configuration — and the movement is presented as growth. The reflex was fitted by a family in which love arrived carrying harm, which taught that whatever comes close will eventually collect. What it asks for is staying through one closeness after it has become uncomfortable.
Daphne, who turned into a tree at the exact moment she was about to be touched, and could not be reached afterwards. The form implies a task of keeping one's own shape while someone comes near.
