It shows up as emotion released through a channel, feeling let out in a calibrated, contained way after a childhood that required all of it to be suppressed, leaving a desperation for expression that only a designated arena feels safe enough to hold. The release is genuine relief; it is also still rationed. What it asks for is a little feeling let out in an ordinary room, uncalibrated.

I can only let it out in the one place set aside for it, and then only in a measured dose.

Pierrot, the pale mime who pours a whole silenced heart into the one performance permitted him, grief and love enacted because they cannot be simply spoken. The form implies a task: to feel a thing off the stage, without the mask.
