It gets its way by pressure, using the whole range from charm through insistence to open coercion, and treats other people's positions as obstacles to be worn down rather than as information. It grew up in a suspicious patriarchal household where force was the working currency and the mother went along with it, which proved twice over that pressure produces compliance and that nobody intervenes. What it asks for is one negotiation in which the other position is allowed to stand.

It echoes Duryodhana, raised in a house where the father never once checked him, who would not concede so much as a needle's point of ground and took the refusal all the way to the field. The form implies a task: to concede the needle's point and observe that the ground holds.
