It takes language at face value and works in literal terms, which makes implication, subtext and the general drift of an experience difficult to take on board, so information arrives complete and the meaning arrives late. It grew up in a household that dealt only in the practical, where nothing was ever read for what it suggested, and the setting has not been adjusted since. What it asks for is to ask once what a thing implied, rather than what it stated.

It echoes the Golem of clay, animated by a word in its mouth and obedient to every instruction exactly as issued, including the ones nobody had thought through. The form implies a task: to ask what was meant before carrying out what was said.
